Training for the approximately 1000 women's groups: up to date information,
and training to change attitudes. Besides, the village workers meet
with the groups every week or every month (for the older groups)
and provide also guidance to the members.

Impregnation of mosquito nets: the group members contribute 4000đ/net,
the non members 6000đ. In June 2004 over 8000 nets have been impregnated. |

Deworming tablets: at 700đ/dose/6 months, they are cheap and effective.
They are distributed at cost to the pupils and the health centres. |

Hygiene is a crucial issue, the programs have
been very effective to improve the local conditions. For several
years 1000 to 2000 households have improved their latrines. In the
communes where the program just starts, there are 10-20% households
with a clean latrine, against 65-75% after 3 years of program in
other communes.
Thiện Chí proposes either an interest-free loan (group members only),
or an incentive: for latrines, wells, water filters. |

Interest free loans
This nis only for the women's groups which have at least 30 weeks
of existence. The loans must be used for the agreed purpose, otherwise
the program will charge 1,5% interest/month. In case of fraud, the
member will not be allowed further social loans. The loans are relatively
small, it is supposed to be a complement, not to cover the whole
investment:
latrine: 300.000, repaid 6.000đ/week
well: 250.000, repaid 5.000đ/week
water filter: 170.000, repaid 5.000đ/week.
Incentives
One must register with the village workers first, and once the work
is done, the same village workers will come and check. For a latrine
the program will give 50.000 đồng, for a well the same, for water
filter: 30.000 đồng and for a biogas 350.000đ.
